sustainability goes hand-in-hand with luxurious comfort
and superb service. We are committed to eco-friendly
practices and green products, and believe that these may
help create a healthier world. Our goals include
reducing our environmental impact, increasing our
recycling program, and reducing our carbon footprint.
Bear Creek’s Green Initiatives include:
Resort Grounds
- Organic vegetable and herb garden used in dining facilities
- No synthetic pesticides or herbicides used on property
- All landscaping, garden and compostable food scraps are composted. Our organic Tea Brewer composting system is capable of making 350 gallons of fertilizer in a 24 hour period.
- On-site wastewater treatment system treats waste on property using treated effluent for irrigation and ground water recharge
Resort Wide
- Energy saving lighting, including fluorescent and compact fluorescent fixtures, motion sensors and computer controlled system to turn off lights in unoccupied areas
- State of the art power and HVAC control systems to minimize heating, cooling and electric usage
- Use of environmentally friendly cleaning products throughout the resort including hydrogen peroxide based products
- All paper and plastic dishware is biodegradable
- Recycling program in place for paper, metal and plastic
- Reuse scrap paper for office purposes
- Fully compliant with EPA and Pennsylvania DEP requirements for recycling fluorescent
bulbs, batteries, ballasts and biohazard wastes.
Hotel
- All paper products are made from recycled paper. (toilet paper, paper towels, note pads, etc.)
- In-room toiletries are biodegradable and designed for environmental stability
- Trash can liners in guest rooms made from recycled plastic
- We encourage hotel guests to conserve water by reusing towels and sheets
The Spa
- Use of natural body products from the Kerstin Florian, Unite, USpa and Biotone lines
- Heat temperature is kept low for client comfort and to conserve energy
Food and Beverage
- Digital reservation policy eliminates the use of paper
- Green ware cups are in use in all restaurants
- Use local beverage vendors to eliminate long distance travel and lower our carbon footprint
- Recycle all cardboard, plastic and paper products
- Recycle used grease from the fryer
