BEAR CREEK MOUNTAIN RESORT BOASTS TOP TERRAIN PARKS

Bear Creek Mountain Resort, known to local skiers and riders as the home of Pennsylvania’s most progressive terrain parks, encompasses 13 acres and three separate areas: Cascade Park, Black Bear Park and Teddy Bear Family Park. Each park offers a variety of snow features and an inventory of over 30 custom rail and box features to suit every level of freestyle skier or snowboarder.

Cascade Park, Bear Creek’s expert level terrain park, features lighting and nine automated snow guns to enhance the super park style jumps and hits. In addition, the Park includes an urban line with street style features, starting with an 80-foot tall poplar tree bonk feature, a six to 12-foot high stonewall cliff drop and ending with a 25-foot long staircase. After the staircase, riders are funneled in to the Jump Line featuring the largest hits available at Bear Creek.

Black Bear Park, the mountain’s intermediate terrain park, features a series of medium sized hits and rails. Black Bear also boasts a 45-foot long and 20-foot wide staircase, designed with an up-flat-down style set-up. The staircase has multiple features, including a ledge style box with side handrail and an up-gap-down rail gap.

Teddy Bear Family Park, Bear Creek’s beginner level terrain park, will be created with smaller boxes, rails and jumps designed to make learning less intimidating. The Bear Creek Freestyle Coaching Program also utilizes this Park. Offered by the Snowsports School, this course was designed to provide the new freestyle skier or rider with a solid foundation for learning the park elements while focusing on park etiquette and Smart Style safety. The program is offered each Tuesday evening and includes one and a half hours of instruction and freestyle rental equipment. (This is also available on Saturdays.)

Additional features at Bear Creek include a 35-foot A-frame box, 20-foot by 30-inch wide butter box, 30-foot flat-down-flat wide rail, 20 and 10 foot wide flat rails and a six-foot tall hitching post. BC Iron Works, the mountain’s in house fabrication shop, builds 100 percent of the features showcased at the terrain parks.
